GFA to elect new President, ExCO members Sept 27

The 2023 Elective Congress for the elections of president and Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, according to the Guidelines and Roadmap released by the Elections Committee of the association.

The roadmap which was released on Thursday, August 3, for the much awaited elections outlined the timelines and various activities expected to be undertaken to precede the elections.

According to the roadmap, nominations for GFA president, Executive Council and Regional Football Association (RFA) aspirants will be opened on Monday, August 7 and they are expected to file and submit their applications for review by August 11.

Vetting of aspirants will begin from Monday, August 21 to Friday, August 25.

Also, any decision taken by the Elections Committee from the vetting will be open for appeal until August 31 and the names of qualified candidates will be published on September 8. The Elective Congress will then be held on Monday, September 27.

Mr. Kurt E.S. Okraku, who is seeking to retain the foremost position of the GFA, was elected in October 2019, after the reign of the interim Normalisation Committee headed by Dr. Kofi Amoah, following FIFA’s ban of then GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi for his involvement in an alleged corruption related activities.

So far, Mr. George Afriyie, a former vice president of the association under the erstwhile Kwesi Nyantakyi administration and Mr. Kojo Yankah, a former Western Region Football Association (RFA) chairman have declared their intentions to contest in the presidential elections.
