20-Fight boxing marathon targets Guinness World Record
Bukom is set for an unprecedented two-night boxing marathon in August, as Bishop Boxing Promotions launches an ambitious Guinness World Record attempt for the most professional fights staged on a single promotion.
Branded the “Best of Bukom Fest”, the event will run from August 28 to 29, featuring a staggering 20 bouts designed to push Ghanaian boxing into global record territory while reinforcing Bukom’s long-standing reputation as the spiritual home of the sport.
Organisers believe the scale of the show will eclipse existing benchmarks and place Ghana firmly at the centre of the international fight conversation.
The current notable marker in the record landscape is the 17-title fight card staged by Most Valuable Promotions at Madison Square Garden in New York on July 11, 2025 — a benchmark Bishop Promotions is openly targeting and aiming to surpass in structure and volume.
CEO and President Dave Bishop confirmed the promotion is being staged as an official Guinness World Records attempt, with the full documentation process already underway.
“We are going for the record. This is an ‘Official Attempt’ under Guinness World Records guidelines,” Bishop said. “We are bringing 20 matches over two days to showcase the depth of talent in Bukom.”
The action begins on Friday, August 28, with a stacked opening night headlined by a high-profile clash between former WBO Africa and Global champion Wasiru “Gyata Bi” Mohammed and undefeated Charles Narh Tetteh, also known as Max TV and winner of the Best Boxer accolade in the inaugural Ghana Professional Boxing League in 2022.
The supporting cast on night one adds further depth, with unbeaten Emmanuel Mawuli taking on the hard-hitting Moses Adjei Selvi, while rising talent Majid Yakubu faces Benin’s Ghislain Vodounnessi in an international eight-round contest.
Former Black Bombers captain Musah Rahman Lawson also features, putting his national super welterweight title on the line against Kofi Dana.
If night one is about momentum, night two — billed as “The Final Stretch” — is designed to push the promotion over the record threshold.
Saturday, August 29, is headlined by a compelling crossover showdown between former national, WBO Africa and Commonwealth champion Obodai Sai and Haruna Mohammed, the current West Africa cruiserweight champion and former national titleholder, in a bout positioned as a defining test of pedigree against momentum.
The undercard maintains the intensity, including a sharp Ashaiman-versus-Bukom rivalry clash between former national welterweight champion Sampson Segbedzi and Henry Malm. Former Commonwealth Games medallist Jessie Lartey is also scheduled to face George Faho Mensah, while Joseph Sackey meets Theophilus Tetteh in another tightly matched contest.
Beyond the fights, the “Best of Bukom Fest” is being staged as a wider cultural statement, combining boxing with live music and traditional performances, anchored by Bukom’s trademark drumming and a packed-venue atmosphere expected to deliver a high-intensity backdrop across both nights.
Guinness World Records officials have been formally notified of the attempt, with Bishop Promotions currently finalising the documentation and logistical requirements needed to meet verification standards.
If successful, the event will not only reset a global benchmark but also position Bukom as the most aggressively activated fight hub in world boxing, measured not just in talent, but in volume, ambition and spectacle.
