The former national number one seed told the Daily Graphic from his US base that he was proud to have lifted the flag of Ghana high among 40 players from different countries, and with high a pedigree in a tough competition which he least expected to win.

He said he was happy about what he had been able to achieve, while hoping to sustain his momentum to enable him to do more in the coming months.

Lartey emerged tops in his group to set him up against Alice Alex Averin in the quarter-finals, which he won 3-2, before easily dispatching Darius Fahimi 3-1 in the semi-finals.

''The quarter-final was a very difficult game for me but I managed to defeat my opponent and proceed to the semi-finals,' he revealed.

According to him the latest victory had boosted his morale as he prepares for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next year, as well as the next African Games to be hosted by Ghana in 2023.

''I am preparing for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, and the 2023 African Games in Ghana and I wish to use this opportunity to thank the Westchester Table Tennis Centre for giving me the opportunity to train over here and I feel great about it.

''I wish to also thank the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) and the Ghana Immigration Service for their support,” he said.
