Legon Cities pip RTU 3-2

The Royals recorded their first win of the season after drawing goalless in the opening game of the 2021/2022 season against Accra Hearts of Oak SC.

The team’s tall defender, Joseph Adjei, scored the opening goal for the homesters on the 22nd minute mark, while former AshantiGoldmidfielder, David Abagna Sandan, equalised seven minutes later before the break.

Nathaniel Acquah restored the lead for The Royals nine minutes after recess before Jonah Attuquaye scored from the spot to make it 3-1 with 18 minutes to go.
However, Abagna grabbed a brace five minutes later, also from the spot but his strike was not enough to salvage a point for the Premier League returnees.

Meanwhile, man-of-the-match, Sampson Agyapong, has attributed WAFA’s 1-1 draw with Hearts of Oak at Sogakope last Friday to the defensive strategy adopted by their opponents.

Describing the match as difficult, Agyapong said it was tactical discipline adopted by WAFA that made it possible for them to cancel the goal scored by Hearts’ deadly striker, Kofi Kordzi.

“At times when you are down by a goal, it’s not easy to equalise or come back to draw,“ he said.
