GFA appoints Germany's Bernhard Lippert as Ghana's Technical Director

The 58-year-old German trainer is a FIFA expert in instructing and training coaches and coach trainers.

The FIFA instructor was chosen among six candidates (three Ghanaians and three expatriates) who were shortlisted for the job made vacant following the retirement of the FA's Technical Director, Francis Oti-Akenteng.

Until this appointment, Lippert was the Technical Director of the Azerbaijan Football Federation, a position he’s occupied for 12 years (2008-20).

He was also the head coach of Azerbaijan’s under-17, under-19 and under-21 national teams.

The German previously worked with the Azarbaijan Football Federation

Lippert was the head coach of German Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt between 1998 and 1999 and on different occasions also served as the assistant coach, head coach and Youth Education Supervisor of Eintracht Frankfurt's under-23 side.

At the early stages of his coaching career, he had brief stints with German football giants Bayern Munich and English side Leeds United.

According to a GFA statement on Monday, Lippert will head the FA's Technical Directorate and formulate guidelines, strategies and policies for the training and the technical development of coaches of Ghana football.

He will be responsible also for the strategy, development and technical direction of the directorate, formulation and implementation of technical programmes at the grassroots, juvenile and the national teams to prepare coaches and footballers for the future.

The German's responsibilities include capacity building of the technical directorate, covering, among others, coach education, referee education, talent identification, performance analysis, technical studies and video analysis, health and nutrition, sports psychology, strength and conditioning, and sports medicine.

His job includes arranging courses and conferences for match officials, team officials, instructors, trainers and administrators.

He is also expected to assess the training programme of the national teams, examine reports on players made by the technical handlers, analyse international matches and advice the FA.
