Women’s League: Hasaacas, Police neck-and-neck
With only two matches to end the second season of the National Women’s League (NWL), the race for the top spot in the southern zone has become a two-horse race between defending champions, Hasaacas Ladies and debutantes, Police Ladies.
After pulling the brakes on Police Ladies last week with a 2-0 victory in their encounter at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipon, Hasaacas Ladies followed it up with an emphatic 3-0 win against Ayola at the Mampong Town Park over the weekend.
Police Ladies who suffered their first defeat of the season in the loss to Hasaacas, returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Immigration Ladies.
A hard-fought game between the two security teams, it took a goal to separate the two sides and hand Police the crucial points needed to push for the top spot in the southern zone.
With the two-sides neck-and neck, the remaining two matches in the 10-week league, will definitely determine who will play in the Champions Declaration match.
For Fabulous Ladies, however, it looks like an easy ride to a second successive Champions Declaration match after they recorded an emphatic 3-0 win against Bolga Sharp Arrows at Bolga.
The clubs meanwhile, have appealed to the Women’s League Board and the Ghana Football Association to support them financially to be able to complete the season.
The clubs say without any sponsorship they have struggled to honour the weekly fixtures and appealed to the GFA to provide some cushion as it did last season for them to be able to play the remaining matches in the league.
