The Super Cup match played to determine who is who in women’s football between the NWL champions and Sanford Women’s FA Cup champions, was also to usher in the new NWL season which kicks off this weekend.

Ampem Darkoa, who last season beat then defending champions, Hasaacas Ladies to claim their first NWL title, scored a goal in each half through Mavis Owusu and Fio Amdiah to beat the defending Sanford Women’s FA Cup champions to claim not only their first victory over the law enforcers, but also became the first team to with double.

At the end of the match, Nana Ofosu Gyeabour, the president of Ampem Darkoa, who led a host of fans from Techiman to the Baba Yara Stadium to support their club, said the victory had set the tone for them to defend the NWL title this season.

“It is a good start for us, and indeed, we are happy that we are the first side to claim a double title in Ghana women’s football. This also clearly indicates our intention not only to defend the NWL title this season but also win every trophy.”
