Promising midfielder Salifu Ibrahim sets Black Stars target

Influential Hearts of Oak player, Salifu Ibrahim, has described his Black Meteors call-up as an opportunity to earn a place in the next Black Stars team.

Ibrahim says he is grabbing the opportunity offered him with both hands and he is keen to use his place in the national U-23 team to catch the eye of Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor before his next call-up in September.

The 20-year-old player's impressing showing in the Ghana Premier League was rewarded with an invitation by Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin for the Meteors' upcoming friendly international matches with Japan on June 4 and June 8.

Ibrahim, who has won seven NASCO Player of the Match awards -- the most by any player in the league -- was excited that his impressive showing for the Phobians had been recognised.

High ambition: Hearts of Oak midfielder, Salifu Ibrahim, is eyeing the Black Stars

“I was very happy to see my name in the team and this motivates me enough to continue giving my all,” Ibrahim told the Graphic Sports in an interview.

“This is an opportunity for me to prove myself to Ghanaians and Coach Charles Akonnor to get a chance with the Black Stars.

“I am ready to take this chance and I can’t wait to play for the team. It is going to be an international stage and I am prepared to give my all.”

Ibrahim has been an instrumental figure in the Hearts’ set-up this season and will be key to Coach Samuel Boadu’s plans as they chase league title glory for the first time in 10 years.

His impressive and consistent displays, coupled with his seven Man of the Match awards so far have positioned the midfielder in strong contention for the Player of the Season honour.
