Former coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Razak, is on his way to the Middle East to manage a second division soccer club Al-Marthiya- in Qatar with the sole ambition of guiding the club to achieve a premier division status.
Following the difficulty of qualifying to play in the premier division in Qatar over the years, agents of the Al-Marthiya tracked Razak who had a short stint with them seven years ago to take control of the team.
Speaking to Graphic Sports moments before flying to Tunis to meet officials and players of the club for a two-week training tour, Razak said he was hopeful of landing a lucrative contract that would motivate him to chalk up another success in the Middlle East .
“ After the two-week training tour, we will return to Qatar, where I will append my signature to the contract which will determine the duration of my stay and my future with the club,” Rakak noted.
“ They know my credentials as an outstanding coach. This is because seven yeras ago, I was with them, and they saw what I did, but we could not agree with the terms of the contract, so I left ,and since then, they have struggled to join the Qatar first division,” he explained .
Prior to guiding Kumasi Asante Kotoko to win the Premier League in 2003, as well as the SWAG and Top four trophies for the Porcupine Warriors that year, Razak, who started his coaching career with ASFA Yenega in Burkina Faso in 1994, also guided Dragons of Benin to win their league in 1998.
Before then, Razak , a former player of the Black Stars who won the 1978 African Cup trophy when Ghana hosted the tournament, had had a stint with Etoile Filante of Togo , but it was with Stade Malian of Bamako where he made his name by winning four successive league trophies , three Super Cups and two FA trophies.
“I know the road to success will not be easy, but with determination, teamwork and commitment to my profession, I am sure to prove my worth as one of the best coaches in Ghana,” he noted.
