Former Ghana international, Rahim Ayew, the eldest son of Ghana legend, Abedi Pele, completed his medicals in Kumasi yesterday ahead of a move to giants, Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Also waiting to undergo a similar exercise any time from now is ex-Asante Kotoko and one-time Black Stars striker, Isaac Boakye, who is staging a return to the club after a sojourn in Europe.
Versatile midfielder, Ayew, 25, whose medicals were conducted under the professional watch of Kotoko team physician, Dr Kwaku Boateng, would be signed in the January window if he passed the medical examination.
Acting General Manager of Asante Kotoko, Samuel Opoku Nti, told the Graphic Sports in Kumasi that Kotoko were ready to bring the two former stars into fold if they underwent successful medicals.
“The two former internationals would be signed on in the next transfer window when they go through their medicals,” Opoku Nti said.
Since returning to Ghana in May 2013 after leaving Belgian Pro League side, SK Lierse, Ayew had made his intention clear to play in the Ghanaian league this season.
The Kotoko general manager, who assumed the leadership position of the Ghanaian champions about two months ago, has left no stone unturned in his quest to build the team into a strong force capable of conquering not only the local league but the prestigious CAF Champions League season.
Ayew would be joining Kotoko after his intended move to Hearts of Oak fell through.
He trained with the one-time Africa champions and was said to have passed his medicals but failed to sign a contract with the Accra giants.
He played for Sekondi Eleven Wise in the 2009/2010 season before leaving to join Egyptian giants, Zamalek.
For Boakye, 31, he is planning to revive his career after injury kept him out of active football since he left Norwegian side, Valarenga in 2011.
