The national female football team, the Black Queens took a bold step towards qualifying for this year's African Women's Championship (AWC) in Namibia with a 2-0 win away to Ethiopia in Addis Ababa yesterday.
Goals from US-based Elizabeth Cudjoe and Hasaacas Ladies' captain, Samira Suleman gave the Queens the win and an advantage for the second leg to be played in Accra in two weeks.
The Queens, determined not to miss the boat to the October tournament in Namibia, spent a week in Addis Ababa to acclimatise to the high altitude which often affected their play in the past, and that seemed to have paid off.
Head coach, Yussif Basigi, said the win was a good result for his side but qualification was not a done deal as they still had to prepare for the second leg on June 7.
The Queens are expected home today.
