Ghana's Black Queens, the senior women's football team, yesterday left for Japan to undertake a week's training tour as part of their preparations towards next month's African Women's Championship (AWC).
While in Japan, the Queens are scheduled to play the Japanese national team on September 10 as well as the Olympic team, who are both preparing for their respective qualifiers for the WWC and the Asia Games.
Coach Yussif Basigi, told the Daily Graphic yesterday that the trip to Japan would help the technical bench to assess the strength and weakness of the team, as they aim to win the AWC for the first time and also qualify for the 2015 Women's World Cup (WWC) in Canada.
"We have trained well and played a number of local friendlies, and it is time to step up the preparation so the Japan tour will help the team in many ways.
"First it will give them a break from the monotonous sessions at Prampram; it will also give the team an international challenge and help us assess our strength and weakness as well as assess our tournament readiness.
The Queens have been in camp since last July preparing for the tournament to be held from October 11 to October 25.
Twenty-three players and 10 officials made the trip.
