President’s advisor drops hint of football’s return in September

Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare, the Advisor to the President on Health has hinted that football could return in September, while agreeing with suggestions to truncate this season’s league due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

“It is possible football could resume in September,” Mr Asare hinted during an interview with Fox FM’s Focal Sports Show on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

According to him the Coronavirus has affected almost everything on earth.

He said the first phase of the easing of restrictions in Ghana will end on July 31, followed by the next phase in due course.

“The first phase will end on 31st July, and we will get to know when the next phase will begin in the course of our measures on COVID-19. But I personally agree with those who think football should be back in September,” he said.

Dr Asare used the opportunity to urge sporting disciplines which were not captured in the Phase One to have patience, while sharing the pain of football stakeholders and expressing interest in the local league.

“I am a supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and have been going to the stadium to watch their matches,” he disclosed further.

According to him the best way people learn a lot is through football but it is rather unfortunate football is in a halt due to Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Dr Nsiah Asare concluded by urging stakeholders of football to remain patient “as the government wants us to get back to normal times as we follow the safety protocols and measures.”
