President John Dramani Mahama has announced a $25,000 bonus package for each player of the Black for their performance at the AFCON 2015 tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

The President made this known when he met the team at the Flagstaff House in Accra Tuesday.

The money will be provided by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), which is the headline sponsor of the Black Stars.

President Mahama said negotiations were underway with other sponsors who want to reward the Black Stars.

The Black Stars lost 8-9 to the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the final after a barren 120 minutes of football.

Despite the loss, midfielders Christian Atsu and Dede Ayew were named ‘Player of the Tournament’ and ‘Tournament’s Top Scorer’ respectively.

Striker Kwasi Appiah won an award for ‘fairplay’, while Atsu’s wonder goal against Guinea was adjudged the tournament’s best.
