Ghana polo team captain, Suleman Iddrisu, is upbeat about the prospect of his side putting up a good performance against their South African counterparts when they clash this afternoon at the Accra Polo Club.
The South African team will be led by Foster Lionel who appears unperturbed by threats from their Ghanaian counterparts and believe they were in to shock them.
Lionel was confident his other teammates, including Williamson Angus, Gilson Andrew and James Gardiner, were ready to deny Ghana any home celebration this afternoon.
The depth of quality at the Ghanaian side is enough to scare the South African as they could be represented by experienced players such as Michael Mahama, Eric Gene, Ahmed Umoru and captain Suleman Iddrisu.
But president of the Accra Polo Club,Kwakye Dopoah Dei, also the president of Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), is optimistic about Ghana’s chances in the Vodafone sponsored two-day event.
He said South Africa and Ghana had enjoyed a healthy polo relationship since 1980 and noted that the club would host a lot of international players to contest the Accra Open Cup on December 18.
