Oti Akenten tips Black Stars to beat Uganda's Cranes

The Technical Director at the Ghana Football Association, Francis Oti-Akenten, says the odds favour the Black Stars to excel in their uncompromising 2015 African Nations Cup (AFCON) qualifier against the Cranes of Uganda in Kampala today.

He said, even though the Ugandans were able to hold the Stars to a 1-1 drawn game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their first encounter in September, a lot had changed since then, giving the Stars the upper hand this time round.

"In the first match, we had problems because we had just returned from Brazil and the confidence of the players was down, while the supporters were also not happy and so psychologically the Ugandans were up against us," he told the Daily Graphic in an interview.

Coach Oti-Akenten, however, acknowledged that it would be a difficult match but the experience of Ghana's caretaker coach, Maxwell Konadu, as well as the zeal of the players, particularly the acting captain, Andre Ayew, and the newly invited ones to shine, would be the trump card for victory for the Stars.

"We need the three points seriously but we have to be cautious", stressed the experienced coach and CAF Instructor, who advised the Stars coach to make good use of counter-attacks, and fortify his midfield and defence.
