Nana Bonsra Afriyie, chief of Adansi Fomena, has pledged full support for Ashantigold Football Club with a desire to make the miners one of the formidable sides in the country and Africa as a whole.
He said it was time the people of Adansi saw the club as their property and rallied behind it for success.
Nana Afriyie made these remarks when he received the management team of Ashgold led by its CEO, Kudjoe Fianoo, at his palace at Formena in the Ashanti Region. The visit followed an earlier one in which the team presented the Top 4 trophy it won this year to him.
It also was to build on the relationship that the team has been building with the traditional overload of the mining town of Obuasi where the team is domiciled.
Nana had pledged to offer himself as chief patron and father figure of the club to ensure that Ashgold remained bouyant in the face of the current troubles that the mine, the major sponsors of the club, was going through.
He said since football was a passion of the nation, particularly for the people of his area, it was imperative for the Adansiman Council to intervene in matters that affected the stability of the club and would collaborate with Anglogold Ashanti, the owners of the club, to ensure that the club remained among the top bracket in both Ghana and Africa.
Mr Kudjoe on behalf of the club expressed his gratitude to Nana and the Adansiman Council, saying the club woul always fall on him for support and counsel to move it forward.
