The hitherto romantic relationship between Black Stars general captain, John Mensah, and his wife Henrietta Mensah has turned sour with no hope of recovery in sight for their ordinance marriage which has lasted for over a decade.
The two have been battling an alleged infidelity on the part of the player for sometime now, and matters came to a head last week due to their entrenched positions, resulting in a divorce suit filed by Henrietta at an Accra High Court which hearing began last Monday.
Henrietta, who has four kids with the stalwart defender, is seeking divorce and some reliefs on the grounds of an alleged unfaithfulness by Mensah and neglect of his parental responsibilities regarding the upkeep of his four children.
However, the former Olympique Lyon, Stade Rennes and Sunderland player has vehemently denied the allegations with a strong defence that he still does everything a good father would do for his children.
What began as a mere spark has now been inflamed by later events into an unquenchable wildfire, compelling the Black Stars defender to pack out of his plush Trasacco Valley mansion into his former residence at Weija which he bequeathed to his mother and siblings a couple of years back.
While the football star describes the turn of events as regrettable, Henrietta, who is bent on seeking her pound of flesh from her former sweetheart believes the only way out of the situation is to seek redress in court after all efforts to save the situation fell on rocks.
Graphic Sports investigations revealed that Henrietta, a former actress, is also allegedly seeking about GH¢50,000 alimony from the soccer star.
Meanwhile, a court clerk who briefed the Graphic Sports last Monday on condition of anonymity said, “the case was heard at High Court 10 in the chambers of Her Lordship Honourable Justice Doris Bempong, but John Mensah himself was not present for the hearing but his wife was. Hearing has therefore been adjourned to a later date”.
In a separate interview with XYZ, Mensah buttressed his argument thus: “I send them money as I know they will need it and I have always been taking responsibility of everything else, including their school fees and all. All these accusations by her are false and I know the truth will definitely be told one day".
