The striker has played only three games this season because of injury, his last coming on 4 October.

"Daniel is coming closer and closer so he can now train seven or eight times in a row - that is the longest period since I've been here," said Klopp.

"My decision you will see but it is closer and that is very good."

Sturridge was an unused substitute in Saturday's 4-1 win at Manchester City.

"We have to try to bring in a situation where he is more robust," added Klopp, who was named Liverpool boss on 8 October.

A win for Liverpool on Thursday would secure qualification from Group B with a game to spare.

Belgium striker Christian Benteke is in line to start after come off the bench in the closing stages at Etihad Stadium.

However, playmaker Philippe Coutinho is out with a hamstring problem, while centre-back Martin Skrtel is ill and unlikely to start.

Klopp said: "We are in a good position at this moment but in football you solve one problem and the next second you have another one."
