Liberty pip Lions

An error by former national goalie, Stephen Ahorlu, proved costly as Liberty Professionals handed Kpando Heart of Lions their fifth defeat of the season in the Premier League Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Goalkeeper Ahorlu rushed out of his goal area in the 14th minute to close in on Michael Appiah but the forward cleverly worked the ball to his team-mate, Daniel Kordie, who curled a beautiful shot from outside the penalty area past several scrambling Lions defenders into the top left corner of the goal.

Liberty dominated the rest of the game but apart from a long range shot by winger Tamimu Muntari, the Dansoman-based side never came close to increasing their one-goal lead.

Lions repulsed the challenge in the second half but Liberty goalkeeper, Kwaku Stephen, thwarted the efforts of substitute Isaac Osei and his strike partner, Samuel Ayew Yeboah.

The win propels Liberty to the eighth-position on the 16-club league table at the end of the first round.
