Legon Cities shock Ashantigold at Obuasi
LEGON Cities FC defied all odds to descend at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium to snatch the maximum points from host Ashantigold and lifted themselves from the relegation zone to the 9th position of the Ghana Premier League table with 35 points.
A 39th minute goal by central defender Issaka Mohammed was enough to hand the visitors a much-needed victory against the Miners who suffered a 0-1 defeat at the Akoon Stadium in Tarkwa last week.

In their quest to go for the maximum points, Ashantigold’s caretaker, Coach Thomas Duah, made three changes to the squad that suffered a 1-0 defeat to Medeama last week at Tarkwa when he brought in Skipper Amos Addai to replace David Abagna Sandan who missed the match through suspension.
The Miners also had Empem Dacosta and Yaw Annor coming in for Sammed Mohammed and Gordon Kusi Brokelyn in the starting line-up respectively.
Cities trainer, Bashir Hayford, on the other hand made three changes to the team that beat Aduana Stars 2-0 last weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Joseph Adjei, Matthew Anim Cudjoe and Baba Mahama paved way for Vincent Adu Gyamfi, Nasiru Moro and Victorien Adebayor in the starting line-up as they fought gallantly and had a glaring opportunity to open the scoring after 12th minute but Richmond Antwi squandered the chance.
The visitors, however, broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Mohammed pounced on a rebound to slot the ball into the net from a free-kick.
The goal proved to be the winner after Ashantigold’s numerous attempts to level failed.
Sogakope
At Sogakope, bottom club Inter Allies thrashed Medeama 3-0 to continue their relegation fight. A brace from Suleman Nafiu and an Andy Okpe’s strike gave the hosts a deserved victory.
In other matches, WAFA beat Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 while King Faisal lost 0-1 at home to Eleven Wonders.
