Kwesi Nyantakyi implores government to consider building more academies

Kwesi Nyantakyi, former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has implored government to consider building football academies in the country to help develop youth football in the country for the country’s future benefit.

The ex-GFA boss who made the call when he appeared on GTV Sports Plus’ ‘Saving our passion show’ on Thursday, explained that academies have taken over colts football in the country and thus needed to be taken serious in Ghana.

He however called on government to support private individuals who set up academies in the country to help build the next golden generation of Black Stars.

“Academy football has taken over colts and government must help private individuals to set up academies.

“In modern times what we used to do as colts football has now given way to what is called Academy football and so whatever the government can do to support private people to set up academies is what should be pursued vigorously”, Nyantakyi said during the show.

Nyantakyi also lauded government for putting up sports infrastructure across the country and added that residential facilities should be included to accommodate the young footballers.

“We could develop regional teams who will compete at the national level to select players for the national team.”
