Kotoko subdue Istanbul FC

Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s quest for a double this season looks set to be accomplished after they subdued  stubborn Istanbul FC 3-2 in a thrilling MTN FA Cup encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Porcupine Warriors thus qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition.

Displaying home invincibility, Kotoko uncharacteristically went down on the 29th minute when a neatly connected lob by Felix Addo beat goalkeeper Abdoulaye Soulama.

Istanbul dominated the game until Kotoko’s Amiru Mohammed snatched the equaliser against the run of play on 35th minute.

After recess, Kotoko took over the game and earned a freekick at the edge of the box and Larbi Koomson who elected himself for the kick curled a spectacular volley beyond the reach of goalkeeper Sam Okyere.

Istanbul managed to bring the scores to level pegging on the 71st minute through Eric Adjei. But Aziz Yusif snatched the winner for Kotoko.
