Under-fire playing body of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have pledged to redeem their image and put smiles on the faces of the teeming supporters of the club beginning tomorrow (Friday) when the Porcupine Warriors play Sekondi Hasaacas at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko’s playing body and technical handlers are under pressure to turn the club’s fortunes around after going four games without a win and placed 14th on the league log.
They see tomorrow’s home clash as a must-win encounter and have therefore made a passionate appeal to rally behind them.
Led by the head coach David Duncan, the players -- defender Richard Osei Agyeman and Tuffuor Frimpong -- each took turns to address the press in Kumasi yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s fifth week clash with the Giants of the West.
They assured their enthusiastic supporters that although the beginning had been tough, losing two and drawing twice at home, they hoped to turn the tide around.
A relaxed Coach Duncan admitted that things had not gone well with his team which had bagged just two points in four matches but was of the strong conviction that the team would soon return to winning ways.
He was full of praise for the Kotoko supporters who have been very supportive of their cause despite drawing at home to Medeama and Ashgold.
“We can only plead with them because it takes them to make us.
“A time is going to come when their sorrow will be turned to joy and their mourning will be converted to dancing,” said Duncan who sounded very poetic.
The Kotoko coach maintained that any expectation of an upset by Hasaacas would not materialise.
“It will not happen,” he assured.
For his part Frimpong discounted claims by sections of the media that Hasaacas would give Kotoko a tough time even on home soil, saying the players were psyching up themselves for the challenges ahead.
“We are lying at the bottom of the table. We don’t need anyone to psyche us up,” he stated.
