Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sunday resisted an indomitable Ebusua Dwarfs spirit at the Robert Mensah Stadium to salvage a point in a gruelling 2-2 encounter which leaves them on top of the league log at the end of the first round, seven points ahead of their arch rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, who were routed 3-0 at Wa.
In a drama which appeared like a demolition mission, the homesters took the stage like a whirlwind and easily grabbed the leader through striker Frederick Boateng in the fifth minute.
The Dwarfs machine was supremely in control at this stage and eight minutes later they extended their lead through a brilliant header by Boateng to the admiration of the home crowd.
With defeat starring them, the Porcupine Warriors fought back with determination and threatened goalkeeper Patrick Antwi, as the Kotoko strikeforce began to show their might, particularly in the second half. They pulled one back through Abdul Aziz who connected home a Seidu Bancy pass.
Bancy later proved his worth as Kotoko’s leading striker when he powered home the equaliser to the delight of the hundreds of their supporters who stormed Cape Coast yesterday for the match.
At Wa, All Stars descended heavily on visiting Hearts of Oak who provided little resistance as the homesters ran amok and led 2-0 before recess through Dennis Adusei (11th minute) and Paul Asare Devires.
Hearts defence, with Rueben Gnagne and Nuru Sulley as the mainstay, struggled to contain the overbearing force of the homesters hitmen of Devires and Emmanuel Gyamfi as they were once again rewarded in second half through Devires.
At the Accra Sports Stadium, Daniel Kordie’s goal in the 14th minute was enough to hand hosts Liberty Professionals a 1-0 win over Heart of Lions, reports Bernard Neequaye and Kwame Zurek.
Sekondi Hasacas continued with their revival when they earned a famous 3-2 victory over Amidaus Professionals at the Tema Stadium.
Amidaus led 2-0 through goals from Daniel Goza's first minute penalty and Isaac Amoah.
But Hasaacas came back strongly in the second half and scored three times through Frederick Quayeson, Theophilus Nyame and Richard Amoah to win the day.
