Joseph Yaw Adu: New Kotoko board will work as a team

A board member of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Mr Joseph Yaw Adu, says the club will not be run on the funds of an individual during the tenure of the current board.

According to Mr Adu, who was a former sports director of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the prospects of the club depends on the implementation of realistic policies and comprehensive strategies.

He told Asempa FM that if the targets of the club could be achieved, supporters and all stakeholders must come on board to contribute to the club.

“The board will welcome any support from everyone but we will not put our trust in individuals for funds. There are about eight million supporters of the club and if they all contribute a small token they will all be part of the team,” he said.

“I am not a rich man. I am a retired civil servant and I was called by Otumfuo to be part of the board to contribute my sports knowledge help change the fortunes of the club so it is a collective contribution we are all sacrificing”.

Mr Adu further revealed that if the new board could achieve the task of rebranding Kotoko, not only in terms of performance on the field of play but also as a viable economic entity, it’s about how  they are able to put things together.

He said after the three-year mandate is over, the tradition of hailing individuals is going to be a thing of the past as prominent personalities who had served the club were not appreciated but only club chairmen were hailed.

"Great personalities like Kwame Despite,  Stephen Boateng, also called Kwabena Kesse, and other personalities have sacrificed their money for the club but they were not appreciated because they were not club chairmen,” he recalled.
