A week after making a grand return to top flight football, Feyenoord Academy continue their amazing run as they seek a place in this year’s MTN FA Cup final with a clash against Premier League side Inter Allies in the first of two penultimate round clashes.
And as if by design, Kumasi Asante Kotoko will lock horns with city rivals King Faisal at the Baba Yara Stadium next week Saturday to determine which side qualifies for the final.
After their impressive display in the Division One playoff, Feyenoord sent a strong warning when they eliminated defending champions Medeama SC last Wednesday in their quarter final match to book a date with Inter Allies.
On their way to the penultimate round, Feyenoord eliminated Wa All Stars 3-0 in the Round of 64, edged out Red Lions in the next round and later overcame former FA Cup holders, New Edubiase United 5-4 on penalties after a scoreless game in regulation time.
On the other hand, Tema-based Inter Allies began their journey to the semi final with a 1-0 win over Berlin FC in the Round of 64, beat 2011 champions, Nania FC, 2-1 in the next round and eliminated Berekum Chelsea in the Round of 16, followed by a surprise 1-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas in the quarter-finals.
Feyenoord’s confidence is soaring following their string of successes lately, and appear a credible threat to the ambitions of Coach Herbert Addo’s lads, who occupy the seventh position on the First Capital Plus Premier League log after staging a strong fight in the second round in a bid to escape relegation.
Aware of how second-tier side, Nania FC, swept aside strong opposition to win the FA Cup three years ago, Coach Herbert Addo is expected to take the Feyenoord threat seriously.
He is likely to fall on his goal-poachers, Niare Benogo and Kassim Prosper, as they seek to end the Cinderella story of the academy lads, who are expected to field players, such as Abukari Ibrahim, Kennedy Boateng, Iddrisu Kato and Samuel Tetteh, to propel them to a dream final.
