I've done my homework on Rooney - goalkeeper

Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno has revealed he has watched hours of footage on Wayne Rooney ahead of his side's Champions League clash with Manchester United.

The 21-year-old made several errors in the 4-2 defeat to the Premier League champions at Old Trafford earlier on in the campaign.

And although Robin van Persie has not recovered in time to face the Bundesliga side, Leno has made sure he is prepared for United's main threat in attack on Wednesday.

"On Rooney or [Robin] van Persie I prepare the same way as in Bielefeld," the goalkeeper told reporters. "With my goalkeeper coach we look at video tapes, to be prepared in standard situations.

"You can see if he cuts into a ball or prefers to shoot with the full instep. Even for one-on-one situations, it does not hurt if you know the subconscious mind."

Leverkusen go into the game a point adrift of United in second place and Leno outlined his determination to secure qualification to the knockout stages and also challenge Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

He said: "We want direct Champions League qualification - if we do our homework, then the rest will come by itself.

"We'll play against Dortmund and have it in hand to consolidate second place and thus finally be Bayern's number one fighter, even if I do not really like that term."
