Veteran football administrator, Kwame Ntow-Fiako, says his decision to quit as chairman of the Division One League board “is irrevocable and without regret”.
He said he had played his part during the 18 years he served in various capacities on the board, and believed the time had come for others to step in.
“I have played my part already; it is time for others to take over,” he told Graphic Sports at the weekend.
Mr Ntow-Fiako announced his intention to resign on Accra-based Asempa FM last Thursday, and explained to Graphic Sports that he had reached “a point on no return” following the seeming acrimony that had engulfed the membership of the current board.
“It used to be a peaceful group; one whose members worked with pure understanding and teamwork, even when we disagreed on matters during our deliberations,” he said.
Confusion had engulfed the board when its chairman contradicted other members of the board on the subject of timing of the start of the upcoming DOL season.
But what had started as a mere disagreement on the media airwaves turned sour at the DOL board meeting last Tuesday when the chairman stormed out during heated exchanges with some of the members.
That departure from the meeting is turning out to be his last as a member of the board he has chaired since 2006.
Regarded as the human archive of Ghana football history, Mr Ntow-Fiako has served on various boards and committees, including the erstwhile Executive Council of the GFA and the committee that drafted the constitution for the current structure of the Ghana Football Association.
Within the DOL, he rose through the ranks as member to vice chairman before assuming full reins when Douglas Djarbeng quit in 2006.
He, however, still remains the Accra representative and the legal advisor of Berekum Arsenal.
