Patrick Allotey: I nearly quit boxing
Former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa super welterweight titlist, Patrick Allotey, has revealed he nearly quit boxing following the incident that saw him punch an Asante Kotoko supporter, Micheal Siaw Agyemang, in Accra last January.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, a remorseful Allotey narrated how he lost almost everyone through the infamous altercation which led to a deep cut on the face of the victim.

Confirming the settlement of the assault case, Allotey revealed that both parties agreed to amicably settle it out of court.
“No one wanted to have anything to do with me because they were disappointed in my behaviour. As it stands now, I have lost a lot of people in my life and it has taught me a lot of lessons,” Allotey lamented.
“The case has been dropped and everything is settled but I nearly quit boxing, considering the trauma I went through from this case,” he added.
Allotey was banned for six months by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) following his assault on Agyemang but the sanctioning body has since announced the lifting of the sanction.
The lifting of the ban means Allotey now has the right to make a ring return when boxing is cleared by the government to resume operations.
When asked about his readiness to return, Allotey said he was grateful to the GBA for giving him another opportunity to compete in the sport, pledging to return as soon as possible.
“I thank the GBA for lifting the ban for my return. I am ready to commence training towards my return when the government gives clearance for us to fight,” he said.
