Kumasi Asante Kotoko skipper, Michael Akuffo, says the death of his father two weeks ago has rather inspired him to work hard for Kotoko.
Akuffo lost his dad, who he described as an inspiration, on December 6 but told Graphic Sports, that even though he was initially depressed he later saw the loss as motivation to help Kotoko clinch the league title.
“When I first heard the news, I was very sad but wasn’t selected for the game that week but when we played Ebusua Dwarfs I had to do my job because my father is gone and he would be happy to see me playing well wherever he is.
“I was very happy with my appearance in the Dwarfs game, I believe we played very well even when we were down and fought for a vital draw. It helped us to open a healthy seven-point gap ahead of our closest rivals and now we have to make sure that we keep our performance levels high and retain our league title”, he stated.
The 27-year-old also spoke about the departure of influential midfielder Michael Helegbe for Medeama saying, “Helegbe’s departure won’t affect the team because the technical team is competent to make worthy replacements out of Larbi Coomson, Rahim Ayew and Isaac Boakye who have been signed on.
