Coach Kwasi Appiah has justified the deployment of Kwadwo Asamoah to the left-back position in the Black Stars as a tactical move which augurs well for both the player and the team.
Reacting to criticisms regarding the use of Asamoah in defence in a post-match interview with the Graphic Sports last Saturday, Coach Appiah said that decision offered the player the chance to operate freely in midfield to support the attack.
“I don't see why people always talk about this issue. In any case Kwadwo Asamoah plays in the same position for Juventus.
“I believe playing in defence gives him more room to operate in midfield and also gives him the advantage in one-on-one situations,” the Stars coach explained.
Coach Appiah thinks playing that role makes the player more efficient and also works well for the Stars set-up.
He buttressed his argument with the Juventus midfielder's immense contribution in Ghana's first two group games against USA and Germany.
