Coach Herbert Addo, having worked successfully with the playing body of Accra Hearts of Oak, has carved out a new Phobian squad declaring 17 players as surplus to his requirements.
In what appears as sweeping changes in the playing body, including the U-20 outfit, the Phobians look ahead for a leaner side in consonance with a directive by the club’s board to prune down the playing body to 25.
Prominent among the players who have been declared surplus are Emmanuel Ansong, midfielders Stephen Tetteh and Sampson Cudjoe, and striker Ezekiel Tetteh.
A Hearts source who confirmed this to the Graphic Sports said the coach had decided to work with a smaller outfit to make management of the Phobian outfit.
“The club decided to get rid of this huge number of players because there will be no reserve league for the upcoming season,” the source added.
He said players, such as Hamza Fuseini and Fatau Mohammed, have been promoted from the youth team to the senior squad.
He said the club’s 1-2 loss to Tema Youth in a friendly match wasn’t anything the fans should worry about since the match helped the coach assess his team.
“The team played well but lost but I think it will help the coach assess his players for next season ,” the source stressed.
