Hearts to break Chelsea’s hegemony

Mahathma Otoo leads Hearts' attackAccra Hearts of Oak may be Ghana’s oldest existing club but the relatively younger Berekum Chelsea rank among few clubs that have discovered Hearts’ weakness and dominated the Phobians since Chelsea’s entry into the Glo Premier League a few seasons ago, writes Peter Sarbah in this  Preview.

Of the last nine games between them, Hearts’ best result was recorded in November 2009 when they beat the Berekum lads 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Chelsea boasting four victories.

Jordan Opoku of Berekum ChelseaSuch is the embarrassing situation that Hearts have vowed to reverse tomorrow as the league heads into the homestretch with most of the clubs very cautious to avoid any slip which could prove costly.

Gradually, Hearts have managed to manoeuvre their way from the drop zone and climbed up to the sixth position after last Wednesday’s trashing of RTU in Tamale now with a resolve not to drop points in the rest of their matches.

The Phobians will remain more cautious in this battle aware of the might Chelsea, who are determined to leave Accra with a point in order to hold onto the top position on the league log.

And with their captain, Mahama Otoo, leading the goal-king chart with 15 goals, Hearts are hoping the striker’s determination to create a lasting impression on the minds of the club’s fans would spur him to fight in this game to add to his goal tally.

Unfortunately, Chelsea have often been tough customers against Hearts in Accra, and the visitors also have the upper hand in clashes between the two sides, having recorded four wins and four draws in nine matches.

Elsewhere in the Premiership, Berekum Arsenal could be in trouble as they play host to title-chasing Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park at Berekum, while 10th-placed King Faisal host fifth-placed Ashantigold at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Heart of Lions will welcome Amidaus Professionals at the Kpando Park, while Liberty Professionals travel to Dormaa-Ahenkro to play Aduana Stars.

Trouble awaits RTU at the Tarkwa T&A Park when they play Medeama and at the Tema Park, Tema Youth will welcome Wa All Stars.

New Edubiase United will host Ebusua Dwarfs at the Bekwai Park.
