Gov’t gives $350,000 boost to Kotoko, Ashgold

The government has decided to boost the continental campaigns of Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold with $350,000.
While $200,000 has been earmarked for the Porcupine Warriors for next season’s CAF Champions League, Ashantigold will be cushioned with $150,000 towards their CAF Confederation Cup participation.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Asiamah, who announced the package during an interview on Adom TV last Tuesday, said the financial support to the two clubs who would represent the nation in Africa was in fulfilment of the New Patriotic Party’s campaign promise to provide financial support to clubs campaigning in Africa.

“It is a policy statement which has come to stay. The $350,000 is for Kotoko and Ashgold. Kotoko will receive $200,000, while Ashgold get $150,000.

“Since the FA has sanctioned their participation in Africa, the government is obliged to support them financially, and that is exactly what we have done,” the minister explained.

“This is historic because no government has provided such financial support to any club in Ghana.

“The money is ready so they can collect it anytime they are ready to participate in the tournaments,” he added.
