The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) will convene an extraordinary meeting to take a firm decision on the resignation letter submitted by Ghana’s Chef de Mission of the Commonwealth Games, Ben Nunoo-Mensah.
A statement issued by GOC Secretary General, Richard Akpokavie, said the committee was, however, taking various steps to ensure that Ghana’s preparations towards the Commonwealth Games were not adversely affected by the action of Mr Nunoo-Mensah.
The former GOC Treasurer submitted his resignation letter to the committee on March 10, citing personal reasons for his decision.
“The GOC is saddened by this decision, which came as a shock to the entire GOC family, given the centrality of Mr Nunoo-Mensah in the planning for Glasgow 2014.
The GOC would like to inform all and sundry that it has been in touch with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Commonwealth Games Planning Committee, Glasgow 2014, the High Commission of the UK, and other stakeholders to ensure that preparations remain on a steady path,” the statement noted.
According to the statement, discussions will continue to ensure that securing of a pre-games training site, the garnering of funding to support the Commonwealth Games effort, and the contracting of an Authorised Ticket Reseller will be on course.“The GOC will continue to release updates as and when necessary,” it concluded.
