The Black Stars of Ghana have a challenging test in the Pharaohs of Egypt who they play in the two-way final qualifier for Brazil 2014.
The play-off draw held at the Cairo headquarters of the Confederation of African Football also drew Côte d’Ivoire against Senegal; Ethiopia against Nigeria; Tunisia against Cameroon; and Burkina Faso against Algeria.
Winners of the home and away games will be the continent’s representatives at the Mundial.
The first legs of the playoffs will be held between 11-15 October 2013 and the return legs between 15-19 November 2013.
Egypt finished the second round group games with 18 points, winning all six games against Guinea, Mozambique and Zimbabwe to top Group G.
The Black Stars on the other hand overcame a stiff challenge by Zambia and garnered 15 points, winning five games and losing one to top Group D.
Head-to-head records between Ghana and Egypt however weigh heavily in favour of the Pharaohs, who have won 9 games against Ghana’s four, according to 11v11.com. Five of the encounters ended up in draws.
