Feyenoord Football Academy emerged champions of the TIDA -U18 International Tournament in Abidjan last Saturday after defeating Asec Mimosas 4-3 on penalties.
The winners of the high-profile tournament had to be decided on penalty shootout following a barren draw in regulation time.
On their way to glory, Feyenoord thrashed AC Royal Mohammed VI Academy of Morocco 3-0 in the semi-finals with goals from Zakariah Seidu (two goals) and Charles Boateng, while Asec Mimosas edged out FC Barcelona 7-6 on penalties after a scoreless draw.
Charles Boateng of Feyenoord Academy emerged top scorer of the tournament with five goals.
The Managing Director of Feyenoord Academy, Mr Karel Brukken, who officially welcomed the team yesterday, together with the Technical Director of the Academy, Sam Arday, commended the players for their high level , which attracted compliments from the coach of the FC Barcelona team.
At a brief ceremony, the skipper of the team, Zakariah Seidu, presented the championship trophy and top scorer’s trophy to Coach Sam Arday, while the chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Technical Committee, Mr Ben Koufie, also presented a badge of honour to the coach of the side, Abubakar Sadick.
