Irate fans of Accra Hearts of Oak yesterday nearly besieged the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium after their 1-1 drawn game against King Faisal to vent the outcome of their spleen on Referee Otis Oppong and his assistants for an apparent poor officiating.
The fans forced open the inner perimeter gates but the timely intervention of the security personnel prevented them from invading the pitch to cause harm.
That notwithstanding, the referees were pelted with all kinds of missiles, including bottled and sachet water, from the stands for failing to stamp their authority on the game.
Faisal shocked Hearts in the sixth minute from a counter attack after Emmanuel Hayford’s shot went off the crossbar and bounced back into play. Sulley Mohammed finished off from the run, blasting past goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy.
Hearts fought back and their dominance paid off in the 43rd minute when Romeo Agban sent a half volley into the net after Gilbert Fiamenyo had found him in the penalty box.
