Some of Ghana’s prominent football personalities, including Abedi Pele, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Mohammed Gargo and Rahim Ayew, joined the Lincoln Community School (LCS) at Abelenkpe to roll out activities marking the school’s 45th anniversary celebrations at the Family Picnic Day on the school’s premises at Abelemkpe, Accra, recently.
A former student of the School, Jamil Maraby, a member of the Ghana Football Association’s events committee and chief marketing officer of Lizzy Sports Complex, took the lead in the organisation of a football clinic for the students.
“My three years at Lincoln are the most vivid of my school years, I wanted to go to school each and every morning,” Maraby stated.
Founded in 1968 by two American families residing in Accra, the school has had its enrolment grow from just eight students to more than 700 students representing 60 different countries.
The family picnic, attended by parents, teachers and students, is an annual affair, bringing together the Lincoln Community to connect and enjoy family fun together on campus.
Ghanaian -born ex France international, Marcel Desailly, was satisfied that Lizzy Sports Complex had provided young Ghanaian players, sports men and women, families, students with opportunities in sports, stresssing the need to help young people to hone their talents.
“If I had not travelled to France as a young boy I wouldn't have had the opportunity to become who I am today,” explained Desailly.
