Medeama kept Ghana's interest in continental competition this year after advancing to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of Moroccan side, MAS Fez, despite losing 2-1 in the return leg match last Saturday.
However, there was no such joy for two other Ghanaian clubs in continental competitions, after Berekum Chelsea and Ebusua Dwarfs crashed out of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, respectively.
Medeama’s 3-0 win over the Moroccan in the first leg match at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipon provided them with enough cushion for the return leg ecnounter.
Medeama will meet Zambia's ZESCO United in their CAF Confederation Cup penultimate qualifying round.
The Ghana FA Cup winners will stage the first leg on the weekend of March 21-23 at the Sekondi Stadium, with the three-time Zambian champions hosting the return encounter at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on the weekend of March 28-30.
Meanwhile, Chelsea failed to progress past the first round of the CAF Champions League following a 2-0 loss to Al Ahly Benghazi yesterday, with the Libyans advancing on a 3-1 aggregate.
Chelsea, who needed a late equaliser to hold the Libyans 1-1 in the first leg, were making their second attempt in the Champions League after reaching the group stages in their debut two seasons ago.
In Luanda, Dwarfs suffered a 4-0 humiliation against Petro Atletico who overturned a 2-0 deficit from the first leg to progress on a 4-2 aggregate.
Experienced forward Flavio Amando Da Silva shot Petro ahead in the 34th minute before the home side scored three more goals later in the game to sail through.
