Bofoakwa eye quick premiership return

The General Manager of Bofoakwa Tano, David Obeng Nyarko, says the club’s fortunes are about to change for the better as they position themselves to return to the country’s elite football.

The club has made fruitless efforts at coming back to top flight football in the country since joining the second tier side about 14 years ago.

However, in an interview with the Mirror Sports, Mr Nyarko was confident that their flirt with the lower division was about to end as they planned to work their way back to the apex soon.

He admitted that the effort had not been easy with the numerous issues that the club faced. Notwithstanding that, he said they had managed to keep hope alive.

“We have kept pushing to fulfil the club’s ambitions of playing in the Ghana Premier League with a new phase to get the team to its destination but it has not been easy,” he revealed.

He disclosed further that the Interim Management Committee (IMC) had fine-tuned the operations of the club and had helped to recruit young players and a new Head Coach, Ibrahim Mohammed, to champion the cause of the club.

Though the club’s ultimate goal is to return to the premiership, Mr Nyarko believed the team had to improve upon its finances by getting sponsors and trade good talents outside to make money to help the team succeed.

Bofoakwa, the 1975 FA Cup winners, face a daunting task to regain their lost glory in the elite league. In the recently annuled 2019/20 league season, they found themselves in the same zone with tough opponents like former Premier League sides, RTU, B.A. United and Berekum Arsenal, as well as Techiman City.

It is likely they would play the same opponents when the next league season begins, but the club’s manager said they were not intimidated by the pedigree of their opponents, except that they had a great deal of respect for all the teams competing in Zone One.

“We are fully prepared for the ultimate with all our strength; we are not scared of the teams participating in the competition,” he stated.

Mr Nyarko was confident that Bofoakwa would pick the sole slot in the 2021/22 Premier League season and nothing would stop them from making it.
Before the league season was cancelled, Bofoakwa were fourth on the Zone One table with 23 points.
