Italy-based Ghanaian striker, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom, has commended his Black Stars colleague, AsamoahGyan, on his elevation as captain of the national team urging him to build on the spirit of unity within the rank and file of the playing body.
He told the Graphic Sports in a telephone conservation from his base in Italy that ‘Gyan’s appointment was ‘timely and appropriate ahead of the AFCON in South Africa in January.’
The Juventus player, on loan to Sassuolo, said Gyan’s easy-going life and his ability to fraternize quickly is a big plus to the team which is likely to firm up the spirit of oneness initiated under the leadership of ex-captain Stephen Appiah.
“Gyan is a very popular man in the dressing room and well respected among his peers. His experience, humour and respect for each other will surely drive the team to higher heights,” the player said.
Boakye-Yiadom said he was optimistic Gyan could influence both the young and senior players as the team chases its fifth Nations Cup trophy.
He commended Coach KwasiAppiah for taking the right decision hoping it would pep everybody up for the Nations Cup challenge.
