The Black Stars will not just be basking in the glory of being recognised as the best team in the world if they win the World cup; they will also be fetching the country a huge sum of US$40 million.
That is because the FIFA General Secretary, Mr Jerome Valcke, has announced that the prize money for next year's World Cup finals will be increased by at least a third from the one that was offered in South Africa in 2010.
He added that the overall prize money for the tournament will rise to approximately US$560 million, an increase of US$140m from the US$420m available in 2010.
Some US$30m was on offer to the winner of the 2010 World Cup and this means that the winner of next year's tournament in Brazil will pick upto around $40m.
That winner could possibily be the Black Stars, who qualified to the tournament last month.
But should that not happen, the country will earn US$32 million if the stars place second, US$27 million if it places third and US$24 million if the Stars place fourth.
The country could also bag US$18.7 million if the national team qualify for the quarter finals, US$12 million if they qualify for the round of 16 and US$10.7 million if the team is eliminated at the group stage.
FIFA has also made available a sum of US$ 70 million for clubs that will provide players for the teams participating in the World cup.
The much awaited draw was held December 6, in Bahia, Brazil.
The Black Stars were drawn in Group G with Germany, Portugal and USA.
Group A has host nation Brazil together with Mexico, Cameroon and Croatia.
Group B consists of defending champions Spain as well as Nertherlands, Chile and Australia.
Colombia, Ivory Coast, Japan and Greece completed Group C while Uruguay, Italy, Costa Rica and England occupied Group D.
Switzerland, Equador, France and Honduras were drawn in Group E while Argentina, Nigeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iran were pitched in Group F.
Group H had Belgium, Algeria, Russia and Korea Republic.
Ghana had an impressive World Cup debut in 2006 when it beat Czech Republic and USA before being eliminated by Brazil in the round of 16.
The country, however, did better in 2010 when it equaled Africa’s best ever performance by beating USA to reach the round of eight only to be eliminated by Uruguay in a penalty shootout.
The Black Stars have qualified for yet another World Cup and Ghanaians will be expecting them to take another leap and make it beyond the round of eight this time.
In fact, some are even calling on the team to make history by being the first African country to win the World Cup.
