Montenegrin Coach, Milislav Bogdanovic, has stirred a cold war between regional rivals Bechem United and Aduana Stars after quitting Bechem United unceremoniously for Aduana Stars.
Director of Operations of Aduana Stars, George Gyau, says the club did no wrong for wooing the coach, since they had no hint of an existing contract between Bogdanovic and his former club, Bechem United.
Officials of Bechem United have alleged that their coach had been stolen, following the Montenegrin’s switch to the rival camp last week.
Responding to the allegation of “stealing Coach Bogdanovic” by Bechem United, Mr Gyau said as far as they were concerned, the trainer had no contract with Bechem.
Bogdanovic signed a one-year deal with Aduana last Monday following successful negotiations between the parties even before Aduana’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Medeama SC at Tarkwa last Saturday.
However, George Gyau in an interview with Graphic Sports said he was contacted by the trainer who expressed an interest in the Aduana coaching job prior to Aduana’s 1-0 loss to Medeama.
“I met with Bogdanovich last week, and he informed me that he had not been given a contract after being four months in charge of Bechem United. We promptly started negotiations as we had a vacancy because of Coach J.E. Sarpong’s shocking resignation,” Mr Gyau said.
“At first no contract was signed, as the coach wanted to complete his final game with Bechem against Berekum Chelsea, but the press got wind of our meeting with the coach so they refused to allow him to sit on their bench.”
He said the coach then had no choice but to return to Aduana where he delivered a pep talk before they played Medeama.
Mr Gyau stated that former league champions, Aduana, who are languishing second from bottom on the league log, were hopeful that Coach Bogdanovic and his assistant, Kwabena Ameyaw, who will take full charge of the team for the first time today against Ebusua Dwarfs, will be able to lift the team into the top four positions at the end of the season.
