AshantiGold defender, Augustine Sefa, has attributed the team’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to “the determination instilled in the squad by Coach Bashir Hayford.”
Speaking to Graphic Sports after the Miners’ 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak last Sunday, the 22-year-old said, “I am in my first season at Ashgold, and from what i have experienced with Bashir Hayford, I can tell you that as a coach, he is up there with the best. He is always telling us that we can win, and at training, we are always required to give out 100 per cent.”
The right-back said the team were going to do their best to preserve their unbeaten run because both the playing body and the people of Obuasi cherished it dearly.
“At times when we are trailing in games, I think about the unbeaten run and it helps me to give out a bit extra because I know the people of Obuasi are watching and listening, and I don’t want us to disappoint them.”
He described their 1-0 victory over Hearts as a normal game, but praised Heart of Lions for giving AshantiGold their toughest test yet this season at Kpando in a game that ended in a scoreless draw.
“Against Hearts, we were up for it because their coach had coached at this club before and the players who were at the club during his spell had a point to prove and were good value for the three points, but at Lions, we gave our all and we were stretched to our limits but gained only one point.”
Sefa disclosed that Ashanti Gold remained oblivious to the struggles of all other teams in the league and only had their minds set on winning their games.
“We don’t care about what happens with Kotoko or Hearts; the only thing that matters is the next game and how we can claim the three points.”
New Edubiase United will hope to put a dent in the Miners’ nine-game unbeaten streak when second placed AshantiGold visit the Gyamfi Park on Sunday.
