Ashantigold boss cries foul over Medeama loss

The president of Obuasi based Ashgold Football Club, Dr Kwaku Frimpong, has pointed accusing fingers at Referee Jacob Aduntera for causing their defeat against Medeama SC in their week 26 match played at the Akoon Park at Tarkwa on May 22.

Describing Aduntera's performance as disgraceful, Dr Frimpong said such attitude was likely to undermine the competitiveness of the Ghana Premier League, affect its attraction and deprived the league the sponsorship it required, if nothing was done about it.

He has, therefore, made a passionate appeal to the Ghana Football Association's Match Review Panel to request the recorded match and take the appropriate action against the referee to prevent him from undermining the competitive spirit of the league.

Explaining further, Dr Frimpong said the referee displayed open bias against his club throughout the match and also awarded a non-existing penalty against Ashgold at a time the match had travelled beyond the stipulated 90 minutes and five minutes of added-on time displayed, thereby gifting Medeama a victory they did not deserve.

“I have already instructed my men to protest against the behaviour of the referee.  We are ready to face him at the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee to prove our case because such a behaviour is a disgrace to the noble profession and something should be done to check it before it explodes to undermine the attraction of our league,” Dr Frimpong lamented in an interview with the Graphic Sports.

Dr Frimpong said referee Aduntera started showing his bias moments after the match started at the Akoon Stadium by not only whistling against Ashgold anytime time they were in advantageous position to create goal scoring chances, but also waved play to go on anytime their Ashgold players were fouled by Medeama.

“Because of the passion of football, some businessmen have made huge investment in the game as their contribution to make it more attractive to entice sponsorship. It is for this reason that there should be fairness in the league, especially at a time the league is generating keen interest at the local and international levels. This will ensure that the best team wins the league to represent Ghana in the continental competition, while those that performed poorly would be relegated to the lower division."
