Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal's quarter-final victory over Everton in the FA Cup has given his side a huge confidence boost ahead of the tie with Bayern Munich, but they were were given a reminder of the tough task they face in the Champions League tomorrow night after the German champions smashed Wolfsburg 6-1.
The Gunners beat Everton 4-1 to progress to the last four for only the second time since winning the competition back in 2005, which was also the same year they last lifted silverware.
Arsenal trail defending champions, Bayern 2-0 in the last 16 of the Champions League following the first leg loss at the Emirates, heading into their last 16 clash at the Allianz Arena, and Bayern warmed up for the clash after coming from behind to register a record 16th straight Bundesliga victory.
Wenger, however, insists they will head to Germany with the belief of turning around the deficit.
"It was important for us to win, to put us in a good mind on the psychological front," Wenger said. "We can be inspired by our focus on the day, by our desire and go to Bayern with the same spirit."
Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League 12 months ago on away goals after defeating Bayern 2-0 at the Allianz Arena, and Wenger is hoping his side can put in a similar display on Tuesday night to upset the odds.
"The statistics go against us when we go to Bayern, but let's make sure that the performance goes for us. Then we have a chance," Wenger said.
Manchester City, however, can take encouragement from Barcelona's 1-0 defeat at Real Valladolid ahead of the second leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday.
