With just three games to complete the local premier league, Bechem United, has called on the Referees Appointment Committee (RAC) to ensure only certified referees were appointed to handle matches.
According to the CEO of the club, Kingsley Owusu Achau, referees who were nearing retirement or had their badges confisticated should be exempted from officiating in matches.
He argued during an interview with Daily Graphic yesterday that his side was handed a raw deal by referee Samuel Gyasi during their 1-1 drawn game against Aduana Stars since he knew he would not be affected by any action because he was near retiring.
The CEO lamented that such referees were prone to influence or could easily be compromised because any subsequent ban could only happen when they were out of the officiating job and would care less when penalised.
Mr Achau noted that such practices could easily push teams to relegation and appealed to the Premier League Board (PLB) and RAC to be stringent when appointing referees for the few matches left.
He suggested to the PLB to send special assessors to all the match venues to independently review matches and performance of referees to ensure their work was not influenced.
