The Ghana Amputee Football Federation (GAFF), in collaboration with Christian Community Microfinance Limited (CCML), has launched a national league which aims to unearth talents for the national team for future competitions.
The league, which will be sponsored by CCML, a financial institution, was unveiled at a ceremony in Accra last Monday.
Launching the league, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Joe Kpenge, thanked CCML for coming to the aid of amputee football. He also called on the private sector to partner the government to develop sports in the country.
He said: "Even though we don't have an amputee league, we have done Ghana proud on several occasions. It is, therefore, important that if you have a league which means that you will be active in most parts of the football season, then we can expect even more achievements, more laurels from amputee football."
According to the organisers, the league will be played in two sectors based on the geographical location of the clubs to enhance competition for the selection of players to the national amputee team known as the Black Challenge.
